Living in Lusaka Munda Wanga Environmental Park
Living in Lusaka is not just about work....but also about relaxation! I thought it would be helpful to highlight some of the interesting and relaxing places to visit while staying in Lusaka. One of our favourites is Munda Wanga Environmental Park. 'Munda Wanga' means ' my garden' in Nyanja, and this is part of the attraction of the Park. There is a beautiful and well laid out botanical garden, with ornamental ponds and indigenous shrubs which is just perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon. There is also a swimming pool for the more energetic and a small restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Sitting under a tree, surrounded by beautiful and some very unusual plants, reading a book or just snoozing in the shade....it is all very relaxing! There are sometimes larger groups of young people having picnics and impromptu football matches which are obviously a little more noisy, but you can usually find a quite spot if you want some peace and quiet.
The park is ideal for families and small children as there is also an education centre and a wildlife park, where there are a number of animals that you can view. The lion enclosure is a favourite – especially when they are fed and come running at some speed over the brow of the hill to get their food which is left all over the enclosure, some of it high in the trees for the lions to find. The different enclosures are well labelled and all have some interesting facts about the animals that they hold.
There is also a small gift shop where you can purchase memorabilia of your visit.
We would thoroughly recommend Munda Wanga for an afternoon or full day trip – it is not far outside of Lusaka and is relatively inexpensive. For more details, their opening hours and entrance fees, go to their website at www.mundawanga.com
You may also enjoy a visit to the Kabwata Cultural Village, or to explore some of the many coffee shops in Lusaka
